Eeek! 8, December 2006

The first carol singers of the year have been. The Rotarians drive a big van very slowly along the street with a guy dressed as Santa sitting in a sleigh-shaped float on the back, a string of coloured lightbulbs floating above him in the breeze. All the while it plays a tape of hidiously cheesy Christmas hits while the younger chaps run along side knocking on everyone’s doors with collecting tins.

On the downside, we got “I saw Mummy Kissing Santa Clause” in our street this year, sung by an out of tune four year old. On the upside, that means some other poor bastards got Mistletoe and Wine by Cliff Richard.

Eventually we paid them enough to make them go away… 😉

Bless ’em.
